Ty Cwm Rhondda is a modern, purpose-built facility in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. It is set in attractive surroundings in the heart of the community of Ystrad.
Ty Cwm Rhondda admitted its first patients in September 2007 and was officially opened in April 2008 by Bethan Jenkins, Assembly Member for South Wales West.
The unit was commissioned in September 2007 as a result of joint consultation between Pastoral Cymru and the Rhondda Cynon Taff Local Health Board, to ensure the delivery of local services for local patients and provide assistance with the patient repatriation programme.
Ty Cwm Rhondda is registered to provide low secure inpatient services to adults who are detained under the provision under the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 and who have a mental disorder.
Referrals are accepted from NHS commissioners throughout Wales and England.
Our service users are those whose levels of functioning require re-socialisation and an extended period of re-integration into the community, initially in a low secure setting. This phase of their care and treatment may be as a result of stepping down from higher levels of security.
Users include those who have behavioural difficulties which compromise their physical or psychological well-being or others who are considered inappropriate for open, acute inpatient services.
