About Us
Pastoral Cymru is Wales's and South West England's leading independent provider of specialist mental health services. Our services are comprehensive and therapeutically enhanced, delivering a full range of evidence-based interventions, care and treatment provided by a full multi-disciplinary team.
Our service provision is evaluated and complemented through collaboration with Cardiff University via a multi-disciplinary research programme in forensic psychiatry and psychology that aims to demonstrate the difference our service provision makes.
Our modern, state of the art purpose-built facilities provide the best available, with therapeutic, safe environments which foster the care, treatment, rehabilitation, recovery and reintegration of our service users. We provide gender specific services for service users throughout Wales and the wider UK, who suffer from a mental disorder and who have the motivation to change their lives.
Our service principles
Our service principles lie at the heart of our care planning, care and treatment and reflect the standards, recommendations and vision in the Welsh Assembly and UK Governments' Codes of Practice and National Service Frameworks for Mental Health Services.
Our service principles are:
- To provide in depth assessment and intervention aimed to specifically address the individual treatment and care needs of our service users. All our interventions are evidence-based and the outcome of our care is thoroughly evaluated throughout the service user's care pathway. This approach to evidence-based practice allows us to demonstrate the impact of our service upon our service users' mental health and quality of life
- To provide relational security, therefore developing trusting and genuine therapeutic relationships with the care team within safe, contained and fully agreed boundaries
- To ensure the principles of empowerment, through listening and responding to the service users and their families' and carers' experiences, views and feelings, therefore enabling authentic participation in care planning and treatment
- To provide Specific Individual Treatment addressing the assessed problem areas and identified needs of each individual, in order to achieve social reintegration and reduction of risk to self and others
- To work towards recovery and overcome the challenge of aligning care and treatment which meets the expectations of service users' own perspective of recovery, goals and wishes
- To develop self-confidence and self-esteem, recognising individual strengths, abilities and competencies
- To promote functioning where this has become impaired, developing autonomy, independence and quality of life with the aim of expediting reintegration to the community
Our vision
- To deliver responsive, effective, high quality services in an environment and atmosphere which promotes safety, trust, dignity, privacy and support
- To achieve the highest standards of care and continual quality improvement through our Clinical Governance framework
- To enhance the provision of 'seamless' mental health services through true partnership work and collaboration
- To provide an evidence-based Model of Care and clearly demonstrate the efficacy of our clinical services through our joint working with Cardiff University
- To promote independence, respect and choice through active participation and inclusion of service users, families and carers in care planning
- To recognise and promote the importance of our staff and ensure our staff training and development programme enables continual professional development
